Tagore Hill

Tagore Hill, also known as Morabadi Hill, is a scenic location in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. Known for its breathtaking panoramic views of Ranchi, the hill stands at a height of approximately 300 feet. It is named after the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, who is believed to have found solace and inspiration here. According to local lore, his brother Jyotirindranath Tagore had a house on the hill, where the poet is said to have spent a significant amount of time. Today, Tagore Hill is a favoured spot for both locals and tourists, seeking a peaceful getaway amidst nature. Atop the hill is the Tagore Hill Centre, dedicated to studying and promoting Tagore’s literature and philosophy. The hill is surrounded by lush green forests, and the serene environment.

Kanke Dam

Kanke Dam is an artificial reservoir located in the Kanke area of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, India. It is a popular local picnic spot and a serene retreat for both locals and tourists seeking tranquility away from the bustling city life. The dam was built across the Kanke river and it primarily serves as a source of water for irrigation and drinking purposes. It sits amidst lush greenery with a backdrop of hills, making it a scenic location for photographers and nature lovers. The calm waters of the dam are complemented by the well-maintained surrounding gardens, where visitors can relax and enjoy the peaceful ambiance. The area around Kanke Dam is also popular for bird watching, especially during the migratory season. Rock Garden

The Rock Garden in Ranchi is a picturesque garden located on the fringes of Kanke Dam, near the capital city of Jharkhand, India. It is famously known for being engineered out of the rocks of Gonda Hill, hence the name Rock Garden. The garden offers a tranquil escape with its serene surroundings and artful rock formations. It inherently mirrors the design of the renowned Rock Garden in Chandigarh and has become a significant landmark for the city of Ranchi. Within the garden, visitors can admire the artfully designed sculptures and waterfalls that provide a pleasant auditory backdrop. Pahari Mandir

Pahari Mandir is a renowned hilltop temple located in Ranchi, positioned at a height of approximately 2140 feet above sea level, the temple stands on a hill known as ‘Ranchi Hill.’ It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and occupies a pivotal place in the hearts of the local populace as well as tourists. The climb to the temple consists of about 468 steps which itself is an invigorating trek for visitors. The panoramic view of the entire city from the top is breathtaking. The temple is not just a place of worship but also a vantage point that offers an incredible amalgamation of spirituality and natural beauty. The serene surroundings and the spiritual aura make it a popular destination for peace-seekers. The hill is also prominent because it is the place where many freedom fighters were hanged during the colonial era, adding a historical significance to the site.

Dassam Falls

Dassam Falls, known as Dassam Ghagh in the local language, is a natural cascade located near Taimara village in the Bundu district, approximately 40 kilometers from Ranchi. This scenic waterfall is created by the Kanchi River, which is a tributary of the Subarnarekha River. The falls plunge from a height of about 44 meters (144 feet), creating a spectacular vision and a thunderous sound that reverberates in the lush green surroundings. As the water hits the rocky base, it gets fragmented into several streams, creating an effect of several falls in one, which is a mesmerizing sight. The ambiance around Dassam Falls is tranquil. A well-maintained descent with steps leads tourists to the foot of the waterfall. However, visitors are cautioned not to step into the water due to undercurrents.

Patratu Valley

The quaint little town of Patratu makes for a great one day excursion from Ranchi. The gorgeous Patratu Valley leaves one in awe of its unspoilt and unparalleled beauty. Undoubtedly, one of the most picturesque locations around Ranchi, the valley has winding roads and hairpin bends that are a treat to the eyes when seen from the hills.

One of the most rejuvenating experiences that tourists travelling to Patratu can have is taking a peaceful boat ride in the reservoir of the Patratu Dam. The scenic drive from Ranchi to Patratu is blissful as it offers natural delights that are rare to come across. Stop at the Jalebi Ghat on your way to capture splendid views of the valley.
